What is Bath Tea?

Bath tea, also known as a tub tea, is exactly what it sounds like. It is a tea sachet that is filled with herbs, Epsom salts, and other scented ingredients. Just throw one in a warm bath to let it steep like a normal tea bag.

Tub tea uses a pocket of fine mesh, known as a sachet, to contain herbs, salts, and flowers. As the warm water from a bath soaks through the sachet, the ingredients start to dissolve and create a scented “tea”.

Many tub teas and bath teas use Epsom salt or sea salt to provide additional health benefits. Epsom salt is known to help with soothing aching muscles, improving skin conditions, and moisturize skin.

Bath teas are a great way to relax in a warm tub with some aromatherapy and other health benefits. Sachets are little packets of tea ingredients that are easy to throw in a warm tub for your next spa day.

Bath Tea Benefits

Bath tea is a natural way to improve your overall health and well-being. By adding herbs, oats, dried flowers, and Epsom salt to warm bath water, you can gain numerous benefits.

Some health benefits include reducing inflammation, helping to balance your skin, and improving rashes. They can also help detoxify skin, repair sun damage, reduce dandruff, and treat acne.

With the power of herbs and the soothing effects of warm water, you can enjoy the relaxing aromatherapy benefits of a bath tea. To make your bath even more enjoyable, you can add essential oils to enhance the experience and create a customized bath tea that is specifically tailored to meet your needs.

Essential oils have a variety of different properties and scents that can be beneficial to your mental and physical well-being. For example, lavender can help improve sleep while lemon can help improve your attitude.

How to Make Bath Tea

There are a few ways to make a bath or tub tea, depending on your preference. They all start with creating the herbal mix that will become the bath tea once hot water is added.

To make a simple bath tea, mix together equal parts of dried herbs, flowers, or fruit with equal parts of oats and Epsom salt to make a powder, and then add it to a hot bath. You can also add essential oils to the mixture to enhance its therapeutic effects.

Once you have your tea mix, you’ll need a way to strain it from the hot bath water, similar to a tea bag in a cup. This can be done by using an unbleached muslin bag or even just a coffee filter.

Here are three different ways to make a bath tea.

1. Simmer and Steep Herbs

Create your herbal bath tea mix and then simmer them in hot water for about 15 minutes. Once it has completely steeped, strain the mixture using cheesecloth to remove the herbs and flowers. The infused tea liquid that is left can then be poured into a warm bath and enjoyed.

2. Make Bath Tea Bags

This is a good self-contained option if you are selling your bath tea. Put your tea mix into a small tea sachet bag made of muslin or cheesecloth. Once your tea bag is full, just sew it up or tie off the end so that the ingredients can’t come out.

To use, just add the bath tea bag to a warm bath and let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes. For best results, hold the tea bag under the faucet of warm water as the tub is filled.

3. Use a Coffee Filter

If you are making a bath tea at home, you can use a coffee maker to create your own tub tea. Just add your herbal mix to a traditional coffee maker with a filter, like you would with coffee. Brew the tea so that the hot water passes through the mixture and into a cup. Pour the hot tea into a bath tub and enjoy the scents!

There are several other known herbs that are great at reducing inflammation, healing wounds, works as an antiseptic, and promotes skin repair. All of these work well in bath teas:

Besides salts, herbs, flowers, and essential oils, you’ll also need something to package your bath tea in. For some teas, you may decide to store the liquid tea and this will require some sort of glass jar. Large mason jars work well for this since they are glass and seal tightly.

If you are using powder, smaller mason jars also make great storage vessels for your bath tea powder. They can be easily transported and branded, making them easier to sell, as well.

Finally, another option is to put your herbal mix into a cheesecloth tea bag and then seal it in a plastic bag so that it doesn’t dry out.
